Anyway Pip and Z mentioned my favorite kind of AU and I doodled Gavin and Michael from it. Basically, Gents are space-soldiers, Lads are misc space urban riff raff.

“SO THIS AU is p much exactly every space-military au except for actually less about military things and more about shore leave, hence the name. so like……. moar urban intrigue and hookers and street fighters, basically.

Gents are space-soldiers, Kathleen is their squad-leader, (Griffon is also military, but assigned planetside so she can raise babby and be a drill sergeant); Lads are misc space-urban-riffraff, like Gavin is a renter (with a drug problem because Drama yoops), Michael and Barb are street-fighters, Ray sells questionable technology from his trenchcoat and trades in information. Monty is like space-Banksy. Lindsay collects overdue bets from the fighting ring (with her fists). Kara’s a bouncer for the cantina (“The Comb”) where they all hang out.

OBVIOUSLY everybody bangs um we p much started it with Geoff is a shy drunk soldier on leave and his friends are assholes and hire Gavin for him and Geoff starts babbling about his wife and kid and Gavin’s like horribly lovestruck and forgets to answer Michael’s safecall so Michael breaks in during their session with Lindsay’s bat and THAT children is how to fall irresponsibly in love with a dumb au

O Saint Suck-it

I kneel here now, not out of reverence or respect, but on weary knees collapsed in desperation. I ask that you, chest caved inward under the pressure of all the heavy hearts beaten down by a volatile world, hold hands cupped ‘round the soft flicker of affection and loss within us all, as we endeavor to carry on through pain and grief.

I dig my toes into the clay, here where ghosts do nothing to ground spirits, and ask for the peace and strength to take it one step at a time, to keep going even when it seems too much, and when we can no longer stay upright, to unashamedly lean on those who offer us safe harbors.

May I never drift too far from those havens and may we always support one another here at the very edge of all things. This is a prayer to and for the people of our community to hold up love and hold up one another when things seem too weighed down to bear.

In the name of all those whose souls ache alongside ours, Amen.

O Saint Suck-it

I come to you, when the nights are long and the days even longer, asking for strength when it seems there’s none left in any stray fiber of my being. I ask that you, with bloodshot eyes ringed in shadow, sit up in vigilance with us when our minds are frayed and our nerves singed, when our brains fight our bodies and when we fight those who think they know our functions better than we ourselves do.

I call to the stars, in the absence of an answer from anything else, that the white noise drowns out only what it needs to, and brings to the glitching light anything that needs to be made apparent, despite interference from those who claim understanding of what they do not know.

May I find the silence when I need it, and may we find what we most need in the sometimes sudden bursts of static. This is a prayer to and for the people of our community to stay watchful and to be able to put care of self where it belongs.

In the name of those who are ever wakeful on our behalf, Amen.

ugh, sympathy. this is the most frustrating part of being creative. if it helps, tho, the only artists who never feel this way are the ones who never improve. feeling this way sucks but it’s part of what pushes you forward ;3;

Thank you, and this is very true! Some days it’s just harder than others to maintain the frame of mind to keep on truckin’. But if you wanna get better you gotta keep on even when you don’t feel like it.

Actually you reminded me of a kid from highschool. He was talented, but when we got to the upper level art classes, I got put with a more rigid instructor and he got put with one that let him do whatever he wanted. And the AP art instructor straight up told us why she wouldn’t sign off for him to take her class, and it was because while he still thought of himself as hot shit, he’d not pushed himself at all and so hadn’t improved. (haha I didn’t get signed off either, but she actually told me while I had improved artistically, it was because I had major trouble with deadlines. I have gotten a bit better about that though, it’s only take however many years heh)

I’m sort of having to come to terms with the fact that my art is pretty mediocre and boring. Like I’ve always been fairly aware of that, but its not something I’ve really examined closely because I didn’t want it to be true.

Now I know I’ve still got lots of room to learn and grow, and I know that I’ve made strides even recently, I can actually see that I’m improving. And examining this doesn’t mean that I don’t intend to keep working and pushing to make myself better. But any time I draw something or make something, even if I’m proud of it, I always seem to come across someone who has done something similar, and done it better, and it’s really frustrating sometimes because it makes me feel like I’m still so far behind where I want to be.

And while I don’t actually want to give up and I certainly have no intention of it, sometimes I wonder if it wouldn’t just be easier to stop makin an ass of myself with putting shitty doodles and crafts and writings where others can see.

But I suppose the show must go on, time to suck it up and keep working and eventually I’ll be closer to my goals than I am now.

He repeats it again, slower, this time frowning. “It’s the ayem-bext,” he says. He plays it a third time, even slower, then a fourth fast and savage. “It’s the ayem-bext,” he repeats, thickly, “it’s, it’s the tune your schoolfeeds teach you your letters’n…” and he plays that complicated tangle of noise a fifth time and you are struck with the reminder that he’s just a kid like you guys, only very much further from home.

This was probably my favorite part of chapter 4 of Let the Morning Come Soon and I’m not a 100% sure why.

“Ah, Mr. Nitram. I think you know well why I am paying you a visit, and it is certainly not a social call.” He sighs, and you can hear the exasperation in it. Your grin broadens, sharpens.

“Well than you know my answer already. You’ve got your statement, there’s no need to keep hounding him, making him go over the whole ugly mess again and again. Let the poor kid have some time to recover.”

“Mr. Nitram, there is nothing more I’d like to do, but I need to make sure what information I have is correct and assure that nothing important was missed. It would be better to just get it over and done with, instead of putting it off. I must say, this protectiveness is quite an unexpected response, considering most of the people your ‘work’ effects do not have the benefit of such care, especially from you.” If looks could kill, you’d certainly be in need of an ambulance right now. He crosses his arms and leans against the doorway, and you can tell his jaw is clenched, his teeth grinding against each other. Good. ”You don’t always shuffle cards for very nice people, do you, Mr. Nitram? I’m afraid your paperwork-magic tricks are not victimless crimes as perhaps you tell yourself.”
